“no artist can predict the future” 2021
EEP Berlin and KO-OP are pleased to announce the group exhibition NO ARTIST CAN PREDICT THE FUTURE?, with work by Ba(y)ryam Ba(y)ryamali, Stani Vaseva, Marta Djourina, Natalia Jordanova, Kaloyan Kolev, Anna Komitska, Radostin Sedevchev, Dessislava Terzieva and Borimir Totev. Curated by Martin Atanasov, Krasimira Butseva and Vasil Vladimirov.
The photographic interweaves through the works collated in this show; it exists in the form of private and state archives, collage, alternative processes, installation, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and 3D models. The notions addressed by the artists vary from historical events, personal experiences and nostalgia to archives of the artist’s body, and preservations of Bulgarian aesthetics and culture.
At times, an imagined future begins to shine through the works - in the frames of an early 2000s Bulgarian immigrant community in London, or through the dozens of non-existent images from Kosmos magazine which are occupying the walls. Somewhere around here, between these works - different times/tenses are kneaded, combined, separated and reassembled.
The exhibition’s goal is also to facilitate a space where to reconsider the medium of photography, together with the ways, methodologies and processes through which it is used in contemporary artistic practices. In some of the works - the photograph is only a starting point, an influence and totally lacks a classical representation, while in others it exists as a final outcome.
